Wales’ leading talent development programme, Forté Project part of Beacons Cymru, has partnered with Size of Wales, a charity dedicated to combating climate change by protecting tropical forests, to create a project that harnesses youth voices to amplify environmental concerns in Wales and beyond.
Together, they have created a piece of music that blends art and activism to raise awareness about the environmental challenges facing our planet. The song is available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, and you can listen to it on YouTube below.
Over the last year, both organisations have been working with Rhondda-based college, Coleg Y Cymoedd, taking inspiration from young learners, who openly shared their thoughts and concerns about climate change during a series of creative workshops. Their insights, along with perspectives of Size of Wales’ Indigenous partners such as the Wampís Nation in the Peruvian Amazon, helped shape the song’s message ensuring it represents the perspectives of the younger generation and those at the forefront of the climate crisis.
Forté Project alumni, Mali Haf, Ogun and Nookee all took part in this collaboration and engineered ‘Time is Water’, a song which reflects the urgency of the issue, awe and wonder inspired by our planet, and hope for meaningful action towards achieving climate justice.
Anna Harris, Size of Wales’ Forest Project Coordinator said:
“It’s a beautiful song that inspires hope, as you’d expect because it channels the perspectives of Wales’ young people and Indigenous communities from the world’s tropical forests. I know it will inspire others to use their voice and take action to protect our planet.”
Reem Ashraf, Forté Project Officer said:
“This song is a testament to the power of collaboration and the importance of listening to the voices of young people. Through music, we hope to inspire action and bring attention to the urgent need for climate solutions.”
