Achieved their Deforestation Free Champions Award in June 2025.
Ysgol Gymraeg Cross Hands had an incredible journey to become Deforestation Free Champions.
After learning about the deforestation risk of different agricultural products, they investigated their school menu and presented their findings to the board of their school food supplier, Castell Howell, at their headquarters in Cross Hands. They went on to create two new deforestation free brownies (using butternut squash and fava beans) after finding out their current brownies have ingredients in that could be linked to tropical deforestation. They then shared their knowledge and delicious brownies with Castell Howell board members and their community.
They would like Castell Howell to become deforestation free champions like them and only supply Fairtrade cocoa powder on their website. They’re also hoping that these deforestation free brownies can make it onto the new menu cycle!
