Tim has worked for some of the largest nature conservation and environmental NGOs during his career including the Wildlife Trusts, RSPB and Greenpeace. He has operated at a local, national and international level including leading delegations for Greenpeace at the UN Convention on Biodiversity and the Convention for the Trade in Endangered Species. Much of Tim’s overseas work has focused on temperate and tropical rainforests including the Brazilian Amazon and in the rainforests of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea campaigning for their protection.
He led a global project for Greenpeace to protect a huge area of temperate rainforest in British Columbia called the Great Bear Rainforest which resulted in over 6 million hectares protected from clear cut logging. He was involved in helping Greenpeace establish a presence in the Amazon and campaigned extensively to stop illegally logged timber entering global markets from the Amazon, Congo and Indonesian rainforests. He was closely involved in launching Greenpeace’s global campaign targeting the expansion of palm oil plantations into areas of pristine rainforests and the role of global corporations helping fuel this destruction.
He has worked for Wildlife Trusts Wales as their Senior Policy and Advocacy Manager with a focus over the past 3 years on ensuring the new Sustainable Farming Scheme for Wales is as nature and climate friendly as possible. He helped establish the Welsh Alliance for Temperate Rainforests and has worked with multiple organisations and the Welsh Government to help ensure the protection and restoration of these threatened rainforests in Wales.
As well as campaigning to protect the world’s rainforests Tim has been lucky enough to spend time watching the incredible wildlife in these forests around the world and has a particular passion for hummingbirds found in the tropical forests of South America.
Tim’s other passions include rewilding and the protection and restoration of our oceans and uplands and he has recently joined as a trustee for Tir Natur – the first Welsh rewilding organisation.
Tim lives in West Wales and loves to walk the coastal path of Pembrokeshire with his family watching grey seals, dolphins and choughs.
