Size of Wales is excited to announce a new collaboration with environmental organisation, Rainforest Partnership on their annual event, Films for the Forest.

Films for the Forest aims to raise awareness about the importance of tropical forests and the ongoing threats faced by forests and their communities, through the powerful medium of film. The theme for next year’s event is Inspire Hope. The shortlisted films will bring the audience closer to these amazing and vital landscapes and share stories first-hand from of the world’s indigenous and forest dwelling people.

Films for the Forest has now run for 12 years and usually sits as part of SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. However, in this most extraordinary of years, the event had to go online at the last minute and streamed on Earth Day 2020. The online event reached thousands of people globally, including some of the team at Size.

Anna Harris from Size of Wales said:

“I was so pleased to have learnt about Films for the Forest and Rainforest Partnership. There are lots of similarities between Rainforest Partnership and Size, both are tropical forest protection charities and both firmly believe in the power of the arts, in this instance, film to move and inspire people to take action to support forests and forest peoples across the world. I’m really excited to see what this collaboration can deliver.”

Samantha DeGavre, Coordinator of Films for the Forest said:

“On behalf of Films for the Forest, I couldn’t be more excited to partner with Size of Wales going forward. The entire purpose of Films for the Forest is to share the stories of rainforest communities, environmental leaders, and passionate sustainable individuals. By broadening our audience with the partnership of Size of Wales, we are able to get our films in front of new audiences like never before. Another goal of ours is to use our films to educate primary school students about the importance of keeping our environment clean. By partnering with Size, we hope to inspire the next generation of environmental activists through these educational events.”

Size of Wales is really excited to be able to bring the film competition to Wales and a wider audience across the Atlantic. Stay tuned for more.
