Help protect the world and its tropical forests: take the Size of Wales “Go Green Day Challenge” to cut your carbon footprint within a year. How low can you go?

Go Green Day is back on 21st June! Go Green Day is Size of Wales’ annual campaign championing climate action, planet-friendly lifestyle changes, and tropical forests. On 21st June schools, businesses and individuals across Wales come together to ‘go green’ and show their support for the world’s forests, fundraise and join the growing global movement of people taking action against climate change. And all donations received during June and July will be doubled by our generous match funders.

But this year we are adding a new dimension to Go Green Day. At a time when Extinction Rebellion, the youth climate strikes and David Attenborough have brought the climate crisis to the forefront, we recognise that people are far more climate conscious than ever and are looking for ways to contribute to positive climate action. Step in Go Green Day! As part of this year’s campaign we are inviting you to take the “Go Green Day Challenge”: pledge to measure and cut your carbon footprint by this time next year.

Size of Wales Director Elspeth Jones said: “There has never been a more important time for us to take a look at our lifestyles and make changes where we can. It took me less than 5 minutes to measure my carbon footprint with an online calculator and I was shocked to see how big my travel footprint is. I will be taking action this year to reduce it. We can all do more to reduce our impact on the climate – measuring our carbon footprints can help us to understand where we can make changes, and there are lots of very simple and practical things we can each do to cut our emissions within a year. We need everyone to do what we can – if everyone makes a small change it will add up to a big difference.”

This means that there are now even more ways to get involved on Go Green Day. We still love to see people wearing green wigs and eating green cakes at fundraising events with your colleagues, friends or neighbours. And so, Size of Wales has two asks for participants this year.
1) Help turn Wales green, take the Go Green Day Challenge and pledge to cut your carbon footprint over the year. How low can you go? We have plenty of tips to do this here.
2) Help turn the world green by fundraising for Size of Wales and our work protecting the worlds tropical forests.

Schools are also invited to enter our poster competition. More information can be found on that here.

Why support Size of Wales this Go Green Day?
Size of Wales currently protects 4.4 million hectares of tropical forests. Forests are a key solution to address the impacts of climate change caused by increasingly excessive carbon emissions. Natural climate solutions such as forests have the potential to absorb as much as 37% of the emission reductions needed by 2030. Despite this, up to 12 million hectares of tropical forest is destroyed each year.

If you’re up for the Go Green Day Challenge head over to the Go Green Day web page and register. We would love you to share your green actions with us on Twitter using @sizeofwales and #GoGreenDay. And don’t forget to wear green!
