Fact: When I’m older, I hope to become a Human Rights Lawyer and help people through working internationally with charities

Why did you join the network?: I joined the network because I believe that Climate Change is quite possibly the biggest and most paramount issue of our lifetimes. However, despite this, I don’t believe that it is given anywhere near the amount of consideration by World Leaders that it should have and consequently, often goes unaddressed. Therefore, I wanted to be a part of an organisation where, as a young person, I am able to help the fight for Climate Justice and have my voice not only respected, but amplified in making real changes. I am very grateful that the YCA network provides this opportunity

What are your top 3 aims you hope the network will achieve?: I hope that the network will reach a wide range of communities, that it will make people aware that Climate Action can be accessible and that everyone can make an impact. I also hope that it will continue to inspire young people to take action

Why are you passionate about Climate Change?: I am incredibly passionate about Climate Change because I believe it is an issue that will ultimately effect us in every part of our lives. Additionally, Climate Change is an issue that will continue to effect future generations and so they will have to face the results of our current reckless action. I believe that unfortunately, it stems from ignorance, but we now have the chance to minimalise its effects and take action, which provides me with some hope for the future as I hope others realise that this issue is so much greater than just a change in weather, but we can make an impact

Name: Ellie

Age: 16

From: Swansea

Fact: I am studying German, History and Sociology for my A-Levels

Why did you join the network?: I joined the network in order to expand my knowledge of the issue of Climate Change; I wanted to know what I could be doing to help tackle it and learn how to teach and influence others’ opinions and actions around it. I feel that young people need to raise awareness and fight Climate Change and I felt that joining the network would group me with like-minded young people and together, we could make a difference. Becoming a Youth Climate Ambassador made me feel like I was part of a team of people who all shared the same end-goal and the network has enabled us to do this as it has provided us with the platform that has meant we can put our plans into action and achieve great things

What are your top 3 aims you hope the network will achieve?: I hope that the network will achieve many things. I think that one of the most important and effective things the network can do is raise awareness of the issues regarding Climate Change and what people – of all ages – can do to help. Hopefully the network will spark the interests of a lot of young people and this could result in mass action. I hope that we can work with Size of Wales to make Wales a Zero Deforestation Nation and work with the Welsh Government to achieve their ‘Zero Carbon Emissions by 2025’ target

Why are you passionate about Climate Change?: I feel that Climate Change is a very real issue that simply isn’t taken seriously enough and I think that if everyone works together, we can make a positive difference to our futures and our planet

Name: Caitlyn

Age: 17

From: Swansea

Fact: I am very passionate about Drama and Performing Arts and I have taken Drama and English at A-Level

Why did you join the network?: I have joined the network because I always tried very hard to involve my Comprehensive School in becoming more eco-friendly. I always tried to promote reusing items rather than throwing them away, particularly plastic items, so much so, that myself and another ambassador formed the school’s Eco Committee as well as the school’s Plastic Reduction Committee. Through these committees, we went on many trips revolving around creating a healthier planet. We also directed our school’s Eco Schools Inspection. My cousin is an Environmentalist and this is what first got me interested in our environment’s state. Seeing the way plastic is wasted and our planet not being cared for as it should made me want to raise awareness and make a change

What are your top 3 aims you hope the network will achieve?: I hope that the network will raise awareness of the issues surrounding Climate Change and to help to reduce/ ban the use of single-use plastics in schools and local businesses across Wales. I also hope that we can raise awareness about biodegradable products as alternatives to single-use items, educate children and families across Wales about the importance of recycling and the issues surrounding deforestation across the World and help the Welsh Government to reduce Wales’s carbon emissions by at least 50% by 2025

Why are you passionate about Climate Change?: My cousin is an Environmentalist and has talked to me about her job since I was young. When I was about 11, I started to take a bigger interest in what she was saying and trying to raise awareness about and took and used that information into school as I was seeing examples of pupils who weren’t aware that they needed to be more considerate towards the environment

However, I also hope we can achieve our other major objective of influencing businesses to go carbon-neutral. Lastly, I would also be very happy if our network was able to successfully encourage schools to reduce their meat consumption and food waste

Why are you passionate about Climate Change?: I am passionate about Climate Change beacause we have already seen the devastating effects of Climate Change in locations such Kiribati or Florida and we continue to see the conditions of our planet only worsening.
