AS GO GREEN DAY 2020 RETURNS ACROSS WALES FOR ANOTHER YEAR OF RAINFOREST FUN, IT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER THAT WE SHOW OUR SUPPORT FOR TROPICAL FORESTS AND CLIMATE ACTION

Posted on

Size of Wales is doing something different for this year’s Go Green Day 2020 by delivering a programme full of rainforest themed activities to your home.

The activities will be free to access, and begin with World Rainforest Day on Monday 22nd June and culminate with Go Green Day on Friday 26th June. Each day leading up to Go Green Day will focus on experiencing rainforests in a different way, through celebrating, learning, relaxing and being creative.

We’re creating a programme full of fun and varied activities, including making jungle animal masks, educational resources, forest meditations, a ‘pub’ quiz, a recipe for deforestation free cake, films and the How Many Waleses? game. So, whatever your circumstances, we hope there’s something that will enable you to join us in connecting with rainforests, their human and animal inhabitants and all things green and leafy!

Elspeth Jones, Director of Size of Wales, explained why this year Go Green is taking a different approach:

As we move into our fourth month of lockdown in Wales, it is more important than ever that we keep up momentum on climate action here in Wales. We are facing a once in a generation opportunity to build back better through a net-zero emission recovery. Forests and trees have an essential role to play in that and we need to tell our decision makers, leaders, friends and anyone who’ll listen that we want to see a better, greener world when we emerge from this.

“Our partner communities across the world continue to work tirelessly to secure and sustain tropical forests in very difficult circumstances. Now more than ever, we need to stand side by side with those communities and show them our appreciation and support.

“We are going bigger and better this year with a digital Go Green Day 2020 programme of rainforest themed activities for all ages, starting on World Rainforest Day on 22nd June and culminating with Go Green Day itself on the 26th June. All the activities are free to access from our website and we invite people to join us for a week of learning about, celebrating and connecting with the wonder, science – and necessity – of tropical forests.”

Share photos of your activities and ideas with us during the week tagging @sizeofwales and using #GoGreenDay and the most inspiring post will win our glorious deforestation free hamper!
