Size of Wales offers free assemblies and workshops to schools across Wales. Our aim is to raise awareness of the issue of deforestation and climate change and to empower young people to get involved in taking action against it. Workshops are age appropriate and cater for pupils from Foundation Phase through to KS4.
Content of assemblies and workshops
Our assemblies offer a basic introduction to the issue of climate change and explore why our forests are important. The workshops are solution focused and highlight how Welsh pupils have the power to protect rainforests both collectively and individually; for example, altering purchasing habits. Our aim is to empower pupils with the knowledge that their individual and collective action can create positive change in the world.
And in return
As we place an emphasis on empowerment and positive action we ask that pupils create a simple fundraising event in return for a visit. Pupils are led through the process of organising an event during the visit and are pointed towards online resources to help develop their ideas. Pupils are then encouraged to choose which of our forest projects they wish to support. Information on how to submit donations can be found here
- The duration of the assembly is approximately 30 minutes
- We usually deliver two 1 hour workshops
- We can work with up to three classes at a time providing there are staff present for general crowd control
Please note that the above timings are flexible. It may also be possible to offer larger schools more sessions.
Finally, we like to meet with the school eco committee/school council members at some stage during a visit to pass on tips on how to plan fundraising events/rainforest days of action. This takes 5 minutes or so and can be arranged to coincide with break time or lunch time.
